In this video, we appeal to significant elders and caregivers in the lives of children as we explore how we develop the tendency to worry-by-default and to become anxious in response to life situations. We also look at how we can beat and overcome anxiety by switching our focus from potential problems to what really matters – possibilities.
Disclaimer: I make no sensational claims that all anxiety is rooted in childhood or that parents / significant elders alone sow the seeds. As with any psychological phenomenon and condition, chronic anxiety occurs due to an interplay of biological and environmental factors. However, children who are conditioned by elders to embody worrying / feeling anxious as an acceptable response to all situations are at greater risk of becoming chronically anxious.
The shift in perspective I present in this video are suitable for people of all ages and not merely limited to creating a fertile ground for children alone.
We should encourage everyone, especially children, to explore possibilities, be curious and consequently harness our strengths and faculties rather than worry and conjure up fear and skepticism in response to situations. This will help us to deal with life in an adaptive fashion rather than see our thoughts and worries spiral out of control.
